TITLE: Apple AtEase and DataClub
DOCUMENT ID#: FYI.W.0252
DATE: 09DEC92
PRODUCT: DataClub
PRODUCT VERSION: v2.0
SUPERSEDES: NA
SYMPTOM
When running Apple's AtEase and DataClub, a user clicks on the
Document window/folder and finds the background pattern is a
picture of the word DataClub and icons sitting on top of the
background.
ISSUE/PROBLEM
There is a known resource conflict between AtEase and
DataClub.
SOLUTION
This conflict is only cosmetic and does not affect the
operation of either program. Apple Computer is currently
updating AtEase to resolve the conflict.

TITLE: Unable to Load File PINSTALL.NLM
DOCUMENT ID#: FYI.W.0253
DATE: 29DEC92
PRODUCT: NetWare for Macintosh
PRODUCT VERSION: v3.01
SUPERSEDES: NA
SYMPTOM
When installing NetWare for Macintosh through RCONSOLE, the
user presses <insert> in the LOAD INSTALL - Product Options
window and enters "Y:" as the path to the location of the
NetWare for Macintosh files. The following message is
displayed:
┌─────────────────────────────────┐
│Unable to load file PINSTALL.NLM.│
└─────────────────────────────────┘
ISSUE/PROBLEM
When installing NetWare for Macintosh using remote console
(RCONSOLE), the user is instructed to create a directory
called NW-MAC on the server. NetWare for Macintosh is
searching for the path specifying the volume name:\directory.
SOLUTION
Enter the path with the volume name instead of a drive letter.
Example: sys:\<directory>

TITLE: ABEND: Running Process ATPS
DOCUMENT ID#: FYI.W.0254
DATE: 27JAN93
PRODUCT: NetWare for Macintosh
PRODUCT VERSION: v3.x
SUPERSEDES: NA
SYMPTOM
When the server is booted, the following message is displayed:
┌──────────────────────────────────────────────┐
│ABEND: General Protection Processor Exception│
│running process ATPS │
└──────────────────────────────────────────────┘
ISSUE/PROBLEM
A line had been added to the ATPS.CFG configuration file to
specify a new print queue, but the new line included a syntax
error. The closing quotation marks after the queue-name had
been omitted.
Example: "LaserWriter IINTX:LocalTalk" -o "Laserqueue
SOLUTION
Execute SERVER with the "-NA" option. This option starts the
server without executing the AUTOEXEC.NCF so the LOAD ATPS
command in AUTOEXEC.NCF will not be executed. Edit the
ATPS.CFG file to correct the syntax error. Shut down and
restart the server.

TITLE: Changing Password with the Macintosh Chooser
DOCUMENT ID#: FYI.W.0255
DATE: 27JAN93
PRODUCT: NetWare for Macintosh
PRODUCT VERSION: v3.x
SUPERSEDES: NA
SYMPTOM
A user tries to change their password in the Macintosh Chooser
with the "Set Password" option. The set password option
prompts the user for the old password, the new password, and
then confirmation of the new password. After the user types
in confirmation of the new password, the system displayed the
following error
┌───────────────────────────────────────────┐
│Old password incorrect, please start again.│
└───────────────────────────────────────────┘
ISSUE/PROBLEM
The Supervisor has set the "Require Unique Passwords" option
to "Yes" in SYSCON - User Information, Accounting
Restrictions. The system retains eight previous passwords,
and the user was typing in a password that they had used
previously. This results in the above error message.
SOLUTION
Use a password that has not been used previously.

TITLE: LAN WorkPlace for Macintosh and AppleTalk
Remote Access (ARA)
DOCUMENT ID#: FYI.W.0256
DATE: 26JAN93
PRODUCT: LAN WorkPlace for Macintosh
PRODUCT VERSION: All versions
SUPERSEDES: NA
SYMPTOM
Using AppleTalk Remote Access (ARA) and the Host Access-LAN
Workplace for Macintosh application, the Macintosh cannot
establish a connection with their UNIX host.
ISSUE/PROBLEM
The LAN WorkPlace for Macintosh Novell TCP/IP (TCPort) driver
init works only with the LocalTalk or EtherTalk interface in
the Macintosh and does not work with the serial port.
AppleTalk Remote Access (ARA) utilizes the serial port of the
Macintosh so users will not be able to connect through this
method.
SOLUTION
Use a different Telnet application that supports the Macintosh
serial port and ARA to connect to the UNIX host.

TITLE: Printing with Freehand v3.11 and Binary
Encoded TIFF
DOCUMENT ID#: FYI.W.0257
DATE: 27JAN93
PRODUCT: NetWare for Macintosh
PRODUCT VERSION: v3.01x
SUPERSEDES: NA
SYMPTOM
When printing a job from Aldus Freehand v3.11 on the
Macintosh, the printer ready light blinks and blinks as if it
is receiving the print job data, but nothing prints out (not
even a PostScript error page). The job is removed from the
queue because NetWare determines that the job has printed
correctly.
ISSUE/PROBLEM
The PostScript printer (such as HP IIIsi, QMS, NEC
SilentWriter, Apple LaserWriter IINT) is configured as a
PSERVER or RPRINTER printer attached through the parallel or
serial port. When graphics in the Freehand v3.11 print job
are sent as "binary encoded TIFF" data over a non-AppleTalk
channel (such as a non-binary channel), the binary control
characters which represent the graphics are interpreted as
printer control characters (0x14 = "request printer status,"
0x4 = "end of job") and interfere with the printing of the
job.
SOLUTION
In Freehand v3.11, Binary encoding can be turned off to avoid
the above mentioned problems by doing the following:
1. Select "Print" from the File Menu.
2. Uncheck the box for "Encoding: Binary TIFF." (The default
setting is that the box is checked.) This option is not
available in versions of Freehand earlier than v3.11.
